For instance, instead of saying “this theory has limitations,” specify that Piaget’s tasks may underestimate children’s abilities because of language demands, memory load, or unfamiliar testing conditions.

A good conclusion in an essay often returns to the bigger picture: developmental psychology is strongest when multiple theories are held in productive tension. Psychoanalytic ideas remind us that early relationships matter; cognitive theories explain how thinking changes; behaviourism and social learning explain observable learning; attachment and ecological theories show that development is relational and contextual. Together, these theories create a richer and more realistic understanding of human development across the lifespan.
